Mental health expert says friends help us bounce back

LIVERPOOL’S Flowerdale Cottage will celebrate Mental Health Month by holding an open day tomorrow.

Centre senior mental health worker Craig Walters said the event was about promoting awareness of mental illness and the services available.

“It is really a chance to let people know what it is that we do,” Mr Walters said.

“This year’s theme is ‘good friends helps us bounce back’, so we will be celebrating being a friend and how we can all be a better friend.”

He said a person’s social circle provided a crucial link in the treatment process for mental health patients.

“For everyone, when we experience a crisis or setback in life, afterwards we often look back and say ‘how’d I get through that?’ Quite often it is due to the support of friends.”

The open day starts at 10am at 19 Flowerdale Rd, Liverpool.

There will be a free barbecue lunch, karaoke, interactive art, friendship stalls, henna tattoos and the release of the Flowerdale calendar.
